CUSTOM DESIGN WORK

At Watson Flower Shops we provide custom design work for a variety of occasions.  Just recently we had the priviledge of designing two unique tributes for Arizona families.

The first was a floral replica of the Arizona Cardinals logo.  It turned out very well and was well received by the family for the services.  The family really appreciated the care taken by Watson's to provide this fitting tribute during a difficult time.  That tribute is featured below.

The second was of a larger than life replica of a baseball.  This amazing floral tribute used red miniature carnations as stitching and it's detail was incredible.  The family was very appreciative of the care taken to design such a beautiful piece.  That design is shown below.

The staff at Watson Flower Shops very happy to make unique and special designs for sympathy work.  Let Watson Flower Shops be your florist to show your love and affection for loved ones who have passed away.

WEDDING HIGHLIGHTS

A couple of weeks ago we made some arrangements for a wedding with a very unique flare.  Below is the brides bouquet and it was fabulous.

The bride's bouquet was stunning.  It featured sunflowers, spider mums, green "Trick" carnations, white hydrangea and wheat!  Amazing!

The bridesmaids bouquets were also unique.  Below is one of those arrangements.

Shown below is one of the corsages and the groom's boutonniere.

Custom design work is what our designer's love to do.  If you have any events coming up or know people who are getting married, we can create custom design work for them.  Just call us to make an appointment.

Watson Flower Shops Presents
THE DELIVERY MAN
(in color and sound)

This video was made by David Johnson and one of his sons in 1994.  The video was for a school project but has now been made available for your enjoyment.  It's very funny and it's amazing to see the changes on Apache Blvd since 1994.  All the scenes were filmed on location at Watson Flower Shops.

ASFA Expo 2011

This years Arizona State Floral Association Expo was a success.  There were many attendees and vendors there.  This years expo centered around wedding designs and sales.

The featured speakers were Joyce Mason-Moheim and Sharon McGuckin.   Both of these talented designers did a terrific job with their presentations.  Many wonderful insights and tips were given throughout the entire expo.  Jacob and Susie were able to attend from Watson Flowers.  Jacob's favorite was the body flower presentation given by Joyce.  There were some many neat ideas and designs regarding corsages and boutonnieres.  Jacob is really excited to put some of his new ideas into action.

Among the vendors there was Teleflora.  And Watson's field rep Kathy was there to present Watson's with an award.  Watson Flowers is one of the top 250 sending florist nationwide!  Watson Flowers is very pleased to receive the award.

At the end of the expo the florist got to enjoy a runway show featuring different dresses with body flowers and bridal bouquets.

The expo was a huge success.  Thank you ASFA for the well planned and executed expo!

We hope we can make it easier for you this year when it comes to deciding what you want to give for Valentine's Day.  Some people think that flowers are generic, but not so.  Flowers leave a lasting impression that isn't forgotten.

The products featured below will help you make a lasting impression on your Valentine this year.  These products and designs you'll find exclusively at Watson Flower Shops.

Above is what we call the 'Love Bug'.  This is already proving to be a big seller this year.  We had to order more vases, and it's only Febuary 3rd!  Your Valentine will love this one.

This is called ' X's & O's '.  Another beautiful Valentine's gift found exclusively at Watson Flowers.  An added benefit to this arrangement is that it comes with a matching mylar balloon.

This gift is one that won't break the bank.  And it comes with chocolates and a bear!  This bear is unique, it says "I love you sooooo much!".  Again, it'll be hard to find a gift like this in the Phoenix Metro area.

This is our 'Hearts Aflutter' arrangement.  This beautiful gift you'll only find at Watson's.  It's truly going to be a big hit this year and is one of the owner's personal favorites.

So let’s get down to it. We know you’ve been waiting to see our new products for Christmas so here they are (in no particular order):

We hope everyone has a great holiday this year and a very happy new year!

Ads for Watson's Flowers

This ad was created by one of the owners sons (5th generation florist).  The first part says "Want to go to the flower shop?"  Then the next guy says "Yes!  Watson's Flowers has the best flowers in the world!"  After that the third guy (all the way to the right inside the car) says, "I'll take you."

It seems like we have a marketing major in our midst!  This was created on paint, he draws much better than this.

Enjoy!

GILBERT DAYS PARADE

The Gilbert Days Parade was Saturday November 13, 2010.  Watson Flowers again participated in the parade to help celebrate Gilbert's 90th birthday.  Everything went very well.

Nathan and Jacob were not able to start construction of the float until Wednesday, three days before the parade!  Thanks to the great staff at Watson Flowers Nathan and Jacob were able to dedicate their full attention to creating the float.

This year we did a larger than life birthday cake.  It had two layers, candles, and large birthday mylar balloons.  As always we decorated the float with lots and lots of flowers.  Beautiful hydrangea lined the edges of the float as 'frosting'.

The picture above was taken the morning of the parade.  The cake looks good enough to eat!

The children riding the float are descendants of Charles and Irene Watson.  The children are always a great part of the float and the love riding the float.

The night before we had lots of family members attaching petals to the float.  They worked hard and did a fantastic job.  Watson Flowers thanks all the family who were able to come help on Friday and Saturday.  Your help is much appreciated.

During the parade we passed out flowers to the crowds at the parade.  Everyone did a fantastic job once again as we handed out all our flowers.  The crowds were pleased.  We even heard one of the announcers say "...here comes everyone's favorite float."

Thanks again to all our family and friends the parade this year was a huge success!  Watson's suppliers donated the flowers used during the parade and we thank them as well.

New products from September and this month:
Below is 'Essence of Fall'.  This is a very distinctive bouquet

Below is our Halloween bouquet, 'Spider-licious'

In September we feature 'Sunflower Sensation'.  This bouquet is gorgeous!

Check out this update to our website.  The 'About Us' section new and it stands out compared to our competitors sites.  Below is just the text, but there are photos of Charles & Irene Watson, Eva & Ernest Johnson, and the flower shop from the 1940's!

About the Company

Watson Flower Shops, Inc was founded in 1927

In 1927 Grandma Irene Watson started selling flowers out of her home with flowers grown in her own garden. Shortly after she started selling flowers Irene purchased 5,000 rose bushes and went door to door selling the roses for $0.25 each. With the profit she made from selling these rose bushes she and her husband, Charles, purchased an 18 acre farm on a road connecting downtown Tempe and downtown Mesa. On this farm Charles and Irene not only grew flowers but grew their family as well. The residents in Mesa knew Irene very well and referred to her as “The Rose Lady.”

Before opening her own flower shop Irene interned at Brown’s flower shop in Utah. She gained valuable skills in design while there and she learned many other things about the floral industry. She also learned about the growers in California and how to order and ship flowers from there.

Ownership Passes to the 2nd Generation

In 1946 ownership of the flower shop passed to one of Charles and Irene’s daughters, Eva. Prior to Eva taking over the family business, Eva worked as head surgical nurse at the Southside District Hospital in downtown Mesa. Eva married a wonderful man, James Ernest Johnson Sr. and both were very involved in the family flower business.

During the years between the end of WWII and 1950 Ernie and Eve had grown the business, establishing 3 branch locations in the East Valley, and franchising locations in Tucson and Flagstaff. Also in the 50’s, the flower shop purchased a large neon sign. This sign along with many other neon signs along their stretch of road (which had become the US 60) would become famous in Americana.

The Johnson and Haw’s families

The history of the Haws and Watson families dates back to the 30's and 40's when Lyman Haws and Ernie Johnson were best friends in high school. Ernie married Eva Watson and, together continued Watson Flower Shops. Lyman developed his floral design talent at Watson Flowers. Many years later, in 1964, Lyman joined the Haws family business and built Haws Flowers and Gifts on Mesa Dr in Mesa until he retired in 1988.

After Lyman retired, Henry (Lyman’s brother) operated Haws Flowers with his wife Edna for many years. Both Henry and Edna retired from the floral industry in 2009 and asked Watson Flower Shops to serve their customers.

Consolidating the Business

In 1950 Ernie Johnson passed away and was survived by his wife Eva and their three children. Now with the responsibilities of raising her family and running a business on her own the other locations were closed.

Ownership Passes to the 3rd Generation

In 1976, Eva’s son David with his wife, Pam, took over management of Watson Flowers. With many years experience with farming, David continued the family tradition of growing flowers on the farm originally purchased by his grandparents.

David & Pam Johnson, owners of

Watson Flower Shops 1976 - 2009

In 2005, three years of construction of the “Valley Metro” light rail train system was about to start in front of their Mesa store. David and Pam knew that access would be greatly limited during construction of the Metro system. They wanted their customers in the East Valley to be able to reach their flower shop easily so in the Fall of 2005 David and Pam opened a branch location in Gilbert, AZ. The new store is conveniently located on the corner of Val Vista Dr and Guadalupe Rd.

Ownership Passes to the 4th Generation

In 2009, David and Pam retired from the floral industry. Management of Watson Flower Shops has now passed to two of their sons, Nathan and Jacob Johnson, and both are eager to uphold the family tradition of growing and selling the longest lasting, highest quality flowers at a reasonable price. Their main store is still located on the original acre of land purchased by Great grandma Irene Watson in 1931.

Nathan graduated from Arizona State University with a degree in finance while working at the family business. Jacob also graduated from Arizona State University with a degree in management. Both of David’s sons grew up being very involved in the family flower business.

Nathan and Jacob became certified Arizona State Master Florist in 2006. Nathan currently serves as the President of the Tempe Apache Boulevard Association (a community organization David also served on) and Jacob was recently elected to the Arizona Floral Association Board of Directors.

Why you should choose Watson Flower Shops

Watson Flower Shop has a proud history of service to the east valley and the Phoenix Metro area. Great grandma Irene Watson instilled three qualities in the generations of florist that followed her. The three qualities are to sell the highest quality flowers with the best possible service at a reasonable price. Every generation of florist since has honored her memory by upholding this family tradition.

So what sets Watson Flower Shops apart from the others? It is the foundation upon which our flower shop is built. Each generation has grown up as a florist; each generation has acquired the skills and knowledge necessary to have over 83 years of satisfied customers. What you can expect from Watson Flowers is professional courtesy in customer service and the highest quality, longest lasting flowers every time you order.

When you order from Watson Flowers you can order with confidence knowing we will give your order the personal attention it takes to make your gift perfect. Regardless of the occasion, the recipient of your floral gift will be delighted. We guarantee it or your money back. That’s the way Great grandma Irene Watson did it 83 years ago and that’s how we do it today.

Our designers have done it again. This time the arrangement created looks like you could’ve picked out the flowers from a summer garden. The arrangement is full of summer colors and even has little dragon flies designed with the bouquet.

The arrangement did very well in August and everyone seems to be pleased with the flowers. We are looking forward to the fall specials from September to November. Our purchasers and designers have found a new supplier of hard goods, vases, and containers and everyone at the shop is excited to see what they’ll create next.

Below is the August featured bouquet. Its name is ‘Summer Fly’ and retails for just $64.95. It’s a beautiful bouquet and very long lasting.
